Independence, MO · Serving the Kansas City metro

Your ad drives
to the people
you picked.

Drivetime Display is a full-color LED billboard mounted on a vehicle roof. You draw the area, we drive it, and you only pay for the miles run inside your zone. No auction. No algorithm. No wasted impressions on people who will never buy.

Business campaign 960 × 320 mm · full-color LED

How it works

Four steps, start to receipt

You control where the sign goes, and you never have to guess where the money went.

STEP1

Draw the ground you want covered

Name a city or ZIP, drop four intersections to box in a neighborhood, or hand us a specific route — past a competitor, down a parade line, around a subdivision. Your call.

STEP2

Buy by the mile or by the block of time

Pay for a set number of miles, or book a half day, full day, or week. Either way the odometer only counts inside the geofence you drew. There's a five-mile minimum per campaign, and above that we take a ten-mile job as seriously as a five-hundred-mile one.

STEP3

We load the sign and drive it

Your message goes up on the panel. A driver accepts the job, runs your zone, and stays moving — the sign is never parked on a lot collecting nothing.

STEP4

You get the completion report

Routes driven, qualified miles, time from acceptance to completion, and final cost. Sign location isn't published while a campaign is live — that protects every advertiser on the platform, including you. The full route comes to you on the report.

The sign

What you're actually renting

What it can do

Content is loaded electronically, not printed on vinyl. One campaign can cycle several messages, swap a daytime offer for an evening one, or change the same day your promotion does.

Change it the same day you change your mind. Ran out of the special? Weather killed the sale? Message us and the panel updates — no reprint, no waiting on a vinyl shop.

Movement is the point. A stationary billboard waits for traffic to come to it. This one goes and finds it, then finds it again on the next block.

Target the ground, not a lookalike audience

A mowing company shouldn't pay to be seen inside an apartment complex where nobody owns a mower. Point the sign at the HOAs, the half-acre lots, the subdivisions with lawns — and skip the rest. Same logic for roofing after a hail line, pools, fencing, or snow removal.

Advertise where your competitor's customers are

Run a coupon on the streets around a competing shop, or along the road their customers use to get there. People considering the purchase right now are the cheapest people to convince.

Nobody in your trade rides alongside you

Premium and Platinum members get category exclusivity: your sign is never scheduled in rotation with a direct competitor. The messages sharing a shift come from other trades entirely.

What to run

It's a billboard you can borrow for an afternoon

Businesses use it to sell. Everybody else uses it because a bright three-foot LED sign rolling down your street is hard to ignore.

Pull up to a driveway at the right moment, or circle a block for an hour. Five-mile minimum, which is about twenty minutes of driving.

Why not just run more digital ads?

Run those too. But online you're renting attention from a platform that decides who sees you, changes the rules without telling you, and charges more every year for the same reach.

A sign driving down a real street in front of real neighbors doesn't get throttled, doesn't get scrolled past, and doesn't need a bid strategy. You picked the ground. The ground is what you get.

Advertising and your taxes

This is not tax or legal advice. We're not accountants, and nothing here should be treated as a professional opinion on your return.

That said: on IRS Schedule C — the form many sole proprietors and single-member LLCs file — advertising appears as its own line item among ordinary business expenses.

Ask a licensed CPA how advertising spend fits your situation. Working with us may help twice: once when a customer calls, and again at filing time. Your CPA is the one who can tell you.

What it's good at

Three jobs it does
better than anything else

Any message works. But these are the ones where a moving sign beats the alternatives outright.

Deals and coupons, aimed

A discount only works if it reaches someone who was already considering the purchase. Run your offer on the streets around a competitor, along the road their customers drive to get there, or through the neighborhoods that actually buy what you sell.

Print can't be re-aimed once it's up. This can — different offer, different streets, next week.

Now hiring, where the workers are

Job boards put you in a list with everyone else. A sign driving past the supply houses, the job sites, the truck stops, and the industrial parks reaches trade workers where they already are — including the ones who aren't actively looking.

Put the phone number on the panel. People call from the truck.

Being seen in one specific place

A grand opening. A parade route. The blocks around an event. A subdivision on the weekend they're all outside. When the whole point is be here, now, in front of these people, a fixed billboard in the wrong place can't help you.

You pick the ground and the hours. We drive it.

Outdoor advertising builds recognition over repeated exposures — the same people seeing you on the same streets, week after week. Judge it on phone calls and walk-ins over a few weeks, not on day one.

Pricing

Same money as a billboard.
It just doesn't sit still.

A static bulletin in the Kansas City metro runs about $3,790 to $4,200 for four weeks in one fixed spot. Our four-week campaign is $4,000 — and the sign spends those four weeks going to your customers instead of waiting for them.

Two questions decide your price. How you buy — by the mile or by the day. And how much of the sign you want — a shared rotation with a few non-competing advertisers, or the panel exclusively to yourself. Your plan sets which options you can pick and what you pay for them.

Buying by the mile

Only miles inside your area are billable. Five-mile minimum per campaign — roughly twenty minutes on the road.

Buying by the day

Miles are included in the block. Your plan decides whether you can point the day at a shared zone, your own zone, or a custom route.

Want the panel to yourself for a whole block? Exclusive panel doubles the block rate and is available on Platinum. Miles past the included allowance bill at your per-mile rate, and you approve any overage before it runs.

Paying: day and block campaigns can be paid by card at checkout the moment you book. Per-mile campaigns are invoiced instead, since the final figure depends on how many qualified miles actually get driven.

Service area & travel

Free within 25 miles of Independence, Missouri. That circle covers effectively the entire Kansas City metro — Blue Springs, Lee's Summit, Raytown, Grandview, Liberty, the Northland, Overland Park, and most of Johnson County. Most customers never see a travel line on their quote.

Past 25 miles we charge $1.00 per mile, round trip, on the distance beyond the free radius — so a job 40 miles out adds 15 miles each way, or $30. That's it. Springfield, Columbia, Topeka, Wichita, a county fair three hours out: we'll come, and you'll see the exact number on your quote before you book.

Holidays and big events

Demand spikes around holidays, big game days, festivals, parades, and the weeks leading into graduation season. When the calendar fills faster than one sign can cover, rates for those specific dates may go up modestly.

We keep the increase small and tell you before you book — you'll see the adjusted number on your quote, never as a surprise on the invoice. Outside peak windows, the rates above are the rates.

Booking early is the reliable way around it. A campaign locked in weeks ahead is quoted at standard rates even if that date later gets busy.

Platinum

$2,400/yr · billed annually

The whole sign to yourself, and the best rate on every mile.

  • The sign runs your ad and nobody else's. No rotation, no sharing the panel — every person who sees it that day sees only you.
  • 750 miles are already paid for. That's about $5,250 of driving included in the price, yours to use across the year.
  • You get four campaigns planned with you, one per quarter. We sit down, pick the area, and set the miles and dates together instead of you filling out a form.
  • We won't sign your competitor in your ZIP codes without asking you first. If a business in your trade wants those streets, you get the first call and the choice to keep them.
  • Our lowest per-mile rates on everything beyond your included miles.

Launch pricing. Every rate is confirmed on your quote before anything is booked. Campaigns start at five miles while we're running a single sign; we'll tell you if a smaller buy would do the job just as well, and we'll say so if we can't cover your dates.

Ground rules

Your ad, your call,
your responsibility

Short version: we're the sign and the driver. What the sign says is yours. Here's exactly where the line sits, so nobody is surprised later.

The three rules, in full

You own the content and the liability

Accuracy, claims, pricing, licensing, permissions, and legal compliance are yours as the advertiser. If you advertise a deal you no longer honor, the consequences are yours. We're a tool you're renting — we don't verify claims and can't stand behind them.

Every order requires an end date

You tell us the day the campaign stops, up front, on the order. No open-ended runs. An expired promotion still rolling down a public street is how a good campaign turns into an angry phone call.

We'll help — we just can't be the last check

Tell us what you're trying to say and we'll give an honest opinion on wording, length, and whether it reads at 35 miles an hour. Free, and usually right. But input isn't approval.

Cancellations and refunds

Content change mid-campaign
Free, usually same day

If weather, a breakdown, or anything on our end stops a campaign from running as booked, you're refunded for whatever didn't run — no argument, no forms. Refunds go back to the original card and typically land within 5–10 business days.

The acknowledgment you'll sign at checkout

Every campaign submission requires this, and your acceptance is recorded with the order:

I am responsible for the content of this ad. I confirm the offer, pricing, and claims shown are accurate and currently honored, that I hold any permissions or licenses required, and that my ad complies with applicable law and industry rules. I assume all liability arising from this content. Drivetime Display supplies the display and driver only, does not verify my claims, and any input it offers on wording is guidance rather than approval. I have set an end date and will notify Drivetime Display immediately if my offer changes or ends early.

If something changes mid-campaign, message us. A content swap on a live campaign is usually same-day, and there's no charge for fixing an expired price.

From the owner

Hi — I'm the guy driving it

Drivetime Display started in Independence with one car, one LED sign, and a simple frustration: small businesses and regular people keep getting priced out of being seen in their own town.

Right now, I'm the one who loads your message and drives your zone. You get a straight answer on the phone and a real report at the end. As the fleet grows, that standard doesn't move.

Call or text 816-668-0439 if that's easier than email.

What goes on the sign?

Never done this before? Fill in an example and we'll populate every field with a complete order you can edit or clear.

This never appears on the sign. It's just how you'll recognize the campaign in your list later.

Keep it to about 8 words. A driver has three seconds. Lead with what you do, then the offer, then one way to reach you — a phone number is best, since people can call straight from the truck.

Timing, streets to favor, streets to skip, anything that matters. If you want the sign somewhere at a specific moment, say so here.

Where should the sign run?

Only miles inside this area are billable.

Mark it on the map

Optional but helpful. Drag a box around the area you want covered, or click a series of points to trace a route. Whatever you draw is sent with your order.

Pick a tool above to start drawing.

Free within 25 miles — that covers essentially the whole KC metro. Past that we add $1 per mile round trip on the distance beyond, and you'll see it on your quote.

Buy by distance or by time?

Minimum 5 miles per campaign. Only miles inside your area count toward it.

How much of the sign?

The end date is the day your content comes off the sign. It's required on every order so an expired offer never keeps driving around town with your name on it.

Review and submit

Submitting sends this to scheduling for approval. You'll get a confirmation once a driver accepts, and a full completion report when the campaign closes. Sign location isn't shown while a campaign is live.

Driver instructions

Standing rules for every job, plus how to handle the special run types.

Before you roll

  • Confirm the sign is mounted square to the roof and parallel to the direction of travel.
  • Panel faces the passenger side. Never angled into oncoming traffic.
  • Load the exact message from the job card. Proof it on the panel before moving.
  • Confirm brightness mode matches time of day.
  • Photograph the mounted sign for the job record.

While the campaign is live

  • Mileage only counts inside the customer's geofence. Get there first, then start the job.
  • Stay moving. No parking while displaying unless the job card explicitly permits it.
  • Never disclose sign location to a customer during an active campaign.
  • Obey all traffic law. A ticket is on the driver, not the customer.
  • Message admin immediately for weather, mechanical, or content problems.

Random roaming route

Cover the geofence evenly for the set duration or mileage. Vary the streets — don't loop the same block. Prioritize arterials at peak, residential at off-peak.

Set duration

Clock runs from the moment you press Start inside the zone. Breaks pause the clock. Log the pause in the job notes.

Custom route

Drive it as written. If a segment is closed or unsafe, reroute the shortest legal way back on and note the deviation in the completion report.
